چکیده

This paper describes automatic techniques for mapping 9611 entries in a database of English verbs to WordNet senses. The verbs were initially grouped into 491 classes based on syntactic categories. Mapping these verbs into WordNet senses provides a resource that may be used for disambiguation in multilingual applications such as machine translation and crosslanguage information retrieval. Our techniques make use of (1) a training set of 1791 disambiguated entries, representing 1442 verb entries from 167 of the categories; (2) word sense probabilities based on frequency counts in a previously tagged corpus; (3) semantic similarity of WordNet senses for verbs within the same class; (4) probabilistic correlations between WordNet data and attributes of the verb classes. The best results achieved 72% precision and 58% recall, versus a lower bound of 62% precision and 38% recall for assigning the most frequently occurring WordNet sense, and an upper bound of 87% precision and 75% recall for human judgment.

Automatic Construction of Persian ICT WordNet using Princeton WordNet

WordNet is a large lexical database of English language, in which, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs are grouped into sets of cognitive synonyms (synsets). Each synset expresses a distinct concept. Synsets are interlinked by both semantic and lexical relations. WordNet is essentially used for word sense disambiguation, information retrieval, and text translation. In this paper, we propose s...

Passive Verb Sense Distinction in Korean WordNet

During semi-automatic translation of Princeton English WordNet (PWN) into Korean verbs, we noticed that the verbs of accusativity/inaccusativity alternation in English were mapped to two or more Korean verbs of different morpho-syntactic features and thus different senses. These mismatches in mapping show the need for reconstructing the lexical semantic structure of PWN for Korean verb wordnet,...

Making Senses: Bootstrapping Sense-Tagged Lists of Semantically-Related Words

The work described in this paper was originally motivated by the need to map verbs associated with FrameNet 1.2 frames to appropriate WordNet 2.0 senses. As the work evolved, it became apparent that the developed method was applicable for a number of other tasks, including assignment of WordNet senses to word lists used in attitude and opinion analysis, and collapsing WordNet senses into coarse...

A novel approach to mapping FrameNet lexical units to WordNet synsets (short paper)

In this paper we present a novel approach to mapping FrameNet lexical units to WordNet synsets in order to automatically enrich the lexical unit set of a given frame. While the mapping approaches proposed in the past mainly rely on the semantic similarity between lexical units in a frame and lemmas in a synset, we exploit the definition of the lexical entries in FrameNet and the WordNet glosses...
